Shakopee Young Athletes

Youth Grades K-12 / Sports & Activities -
Fall 2025

Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program that introduces children ages 2 - 7, with and without intellectual disabilities, to the world of sports. There is no better way to introduce children to the Special Olympics community than through Young Athletes, fostering inclusion in a fun and engaging setting for all.

Young Athletes uses the Special Olympics sport and play curriculum and introduces basic gross motor skills like running, kicking and throwing. This program will take place in the gym at Pearson Early Learning Center and will be led by trained Special Olympics volunteers. Parents/guardians are encouraged to be in attendance as observers and to support participation as needed.

Scholarships through Special Olympics MN and fee assistance through the school district are available. For more information, please contact Chris Younger at cyounger@shakopee.k12.mn.us
