Rock Lickers Anonymous

Adult / Hobbies and Arts -
Winter/Spring 2025

Join us for a good old-fashioned show and tell of most of the gemstones that you can mine across the US, as well as the stories behind the mines. Class will focus on what rocks you can find, where you can find them, how to look/mine for them, the process of cutting and polishing, and anything else rock-hounding related! If you want to know more about amateur rock-hounding or professional mining, come share your rock licking experiences with us. Please bring something from your personal collection to share with the group! The problem with being an adult these days is that nobody shows off their pocket rocks anymore. Rock Lickers Anonymous would like to change that! This class is for both adults and kids eight and up, accompanied by an adult. Upon registration, you can choose a price that includes a treasure bucket to pan for gold and other rocks and gems or choose the lower price to attend the class without the bucket.

Jacob M Strunk

My name is Jake Strunk, and I am the owner of River Valley D.O.G.S. I’ve have been doing basic obedience training for about six years and have also worked in a variety of positions in the dog industry for about 10 years. I received my C.C.T.B.S. (Certified Canine Trainer and Behavior Specialist) from the Animal Behavior Institute and specialize in puppy and adult dog obedience and behavior modification. I often say that I am not a dog trainer, I am a human trainer, because the vast majority of what I do is teach people how to train their own dogs. Dogs are fairly predictable, and the issues most people face with obedience stems from the failure to communicate properly, or an unbalanced relationship between the dog and the humans. The dogs behavior will not change unless the humans behavior changes first. In reality, I train humans so they can train their dogs.
When I’m not working with people and dogs, you can probably find me with my rock collection or metal detecting. I spent the summer of 2019 working as a mine manager at an opal mine in Nevada teaching people how to mine for gem-quality fire opals. Sharing knowledge about the natural world has always been a passion of mine, and I love watching people learn new skills. The immediate transformation that goes along with it is very rewarding to watch, and the desire to teach is really the driving force behind what I do.
