PROGRAM UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024, there is no longer a requirement for participants to take an 8-hour class. First-time participants can take the 4-hour class and repeat every three years to qualify for the discount.
In this fun interactive camp, participants will learn about chemistry by doing various craft projects and experiments. They will learn about solutions and how elements are dissolved and then re-crystallized in a different form by making rock candy. They will explore which ingredients have active, non-active and reactive properties, and what makes them bind together and "fizz" while making bath bombs and shower steamers. Participants will discuss melting points of different substances while making a bar of "melt and pour" soap. Lastly, campers will learn about the various densities of liquids while making their own lava lamp from an upcycled bottle. Take-home projects will include a starter solution for rock candy, a few bath bombs/shower steamers, a bar of soap, and a homemade lava lamp.
