  • Chemistry and Crafts Camp

    In this fun interactive camp, participants will learn about chemistry by doing various craft projects and experiments. They will learn about solutions and how elements are dissolved and then re-crystallized in a different form by making rock candy. They will explore which ingredients have active, non-active and reactive properties, and what makes them bind together and "fizz" while making bath bombs and shower steamers. Participants will discuss melting points of different substances while making a bar of "melt and pour" soap. Lastly, campers will learn about the various densities of liquids while making their own lava lamp from an upcycled bottle. Take-home projects will include a starter solution for rock candy, a few bath bombs/shower steamers, a bar of soap, and a homemade lava lamp.

  • FUNctional FUN Pottery Camp (Session 2)

    Calling all students interested in learning how to use a pottery wheel! In this camp, you will learn the basics of "throwing" on a pottery wheel and how to add your own twist to your clay creations with fun surface decoration techniques. Participants will leave camp with their very own functional pieces (think mugs, bowls, plates, pots or candle holders). Projects will be completed on Thursday, but will not be ready for pick up until approximately two weeks later. Meets four times.

  • Kids Kitchen Boot Camp 201

    Have you taken Kids Kitchen Boot Camp 101 in the past and really enjoyed it? Then you may be ready for the next level! In this two-day camp, participants will be introduced to advanced tools and techniques, including mandolins, instant pots, canning and multi-step recipes. In addition, students will review kitchen safety and healthy eating tips. This camp involves working in groups, moving through directions quickly and handling multiple hot items. Safety, awareness, and being able to work in the kitchen comfortably is an expectation for this class. This is not for beginners. Meets two times.

    Please note: Participants must be registered for at least a morning or afternoon camp with Shakopee Community Education to be eligible to register for the Lunch Link program. Sign up for the Lunch Link program, and create a full day of fun for your child! Lunch Link takes place from 12-1pm on Monday-Thursday at Sweeney Elementary, and it is the perfect solution for families looking for full-day options. By providing a supervised lunch and recreation hour, Lunch Link connects morning and afternoon camps. The Lunch Link registration fee is in addition to camp registration, and students are required to bring their own lunch.

Each day, students will have a group lesson on their chosen instrument, participate in a music theory class, and play along in an ensemble rehearsal.   • Safety & Self Defense Camp (Gr K-5)

    Safety is about the situation, self-awareness and self-defense. Learn the fundamentals, effective responses to practical situations, and experience hands-on exercises. This class includes discussion on boundaries, saying "no," de-escalation, and the importance of taking care of ourselves. Participants will learn the most critical elements to keep themselves safe and practice self-awareness. They will also punch, kick, block, yell and more. Build a strong foundation for strength and confidence. This is a youth-focused class. Parents are welcome to watch.

  • Woodworking Camp

    In this camp, builders will learn to measure, cut, sand, paint and then take home each project they build. Projects will include a paddle boat, a bird house, a trophy stand, and a garden tote. This camp educates students on the use of basic tools (hammers, nails, screwdriver, measuring tape, t-square and more). Safety is our first priority. No power tools will be used in class. NOTE: Participants should be comfortable cutting using a small saw as well as using other hand tools. Students should wear clothes that can get paint on them. Meets four times.
  • Yes, And! Improv & Acting Camp

    Are you ready to step into the spotlight? Join us for an exciting summer camp where students will work on acting and improv skills! Campers will develop their stage presence, perform scenes from popular plays and musicals, and work as a team to bring stories to live. Students will also dive into the world of improv (acting without a script). Through games and challenges, students will develop quick thinking, adaptability and the ability to create memorable characters on the spot. Focus is put on developing imagination, social skills and a positive self-image through the performing arts. Family and friends are invited to a special performance on the last day of camp.
