    Peek into Preschool:: We recognize that children develop along a continuum and this class is perfect for children who are working towards the independent skills needed for preschool. This unique blend of parent/child time and peer group interaction offers an introductory preschool experience. The Parent/child day includes playtime together followed by a circle time and lastly a time for separation where parents will have the opportunity to support each other in discussions led by one of our parent and family educators . Parents must register and attend the parent/child class day on Mondays with Wednesday being a child only day which allows your child to begin to gain independence and self confidence.     The Driver Discount Program is a state-approved accident prevention/insurance discount class that is open to the public. Pre-registration is required. A Minnesota Highway Safety & Research Center certified instructor teaches this class. Participants will be provided the latest information regarding driver and traffic safety, new vehicle technology and updates on traffic laws. This class has something for everyone! Participants ages 55 and older who complete the course qualify for up to a 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years. First-time participants must complete the initial eight hours of training and a four-hour refresher class every three years to maintain the discount.

  • Adaptation Adventure Quest

    This camp is perfect for active learners who are curious about the animal kingdom and love learning in engaging ways. By participating in games and hands-on activities, campers will uncover secrets of the animal kingdom and discover how animals have adapted to survive. They will also explore how animals use their senses, bodies, and behaviors to adapt to their surroundings and ensure their survival. Then students will bring together all the skills they have learned in "Instincts for Survival!" - an ultimate game of hide and seek. This camp takes place mostly outdoors, so be sure to dress for the weather and in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Closed-toe shoes are required. Meets four times.
  • Adult Spanish Conversation

    Are you seeking opportunities to practice speaking Spanish? If so, this is the class for you! Instructors will engage participants each week with real-life conversation scenarios to encourage chatting and conversation. Conversation topics include 'un poco de todo' a little of everything and everyday Spanish. In this dynamic and hands-on class, participants will practice useful Spanish vocabulary and conversation components that can be applied to the home, workplace, travel, leisure, etc. Start speaking Spanish today! Open to new and previous Spanish conversation participants. Basic computer experience and the ability to access zoom is required. Option 1: for beginner level participants Option 2: for intermediate and advanced level participants. Please choose the option that best describes your skill level to be placed with participants for matching level conversation abilities and practices.

    Get ready to wire up your Minecraft worlds with command blocks and Redstone! Even if you're a seasoned Minecraft pro, there's plenty for you to learn. Minecraft's command block is a pseudo-programming language that consists of logic and execution written in text. Redstone offers Minecraft players a whole new range of opportunities to create amazing things, from basic traps to powered machines. You will learn to spawn creatures, teleport all over your world, and make multiplayer games. We will be using the PC/Java edition of Minecraft. Bring a USB drive to save your games on the last day of camp. Meets four times.

Participants will make a colorful paper mâché donut, sculpt some silly snails and a coil pot, learn how to make prints with a print plate, draw animals, paint a canvas, and much more!

  • Antique Appraisal Event

    Have you ever wondered what your family heirlooms are worth? Join us for a thirty-minute appraising presentation followed by an appraisal of at least one item per participant. You'll be assigned a 10-minute time slot in the order you registered to have your item appraised. Once everyone has had their item valued, certified appraiser David Schlueter will examine additional items as time allows. Examples of items that can be appraised are antiques, fine jewelry, costume jewelry, precious gemstones, all art, and coins. This class is for items you can easily carry. Please refrain from bringing firearms or Beanie Babies. Please name the one item you would like appraised on the registration form, and email photos of the item to estarke@shakopee.k12.mn.us at least one week prior to the event. Coffee and treats will be provided.

    Come join us for a fun one-day camp featuring some of our favorite Abrakadoodle lessons. Draw your own dog inspired by George Rodrigue and his favorite subject "Blue Dog," use clay and seashells to sculpt a sea creature, and create colorful hens and chicks with chalk and oil pastels. This will be a morning filled with creating fun and beautiful art!

    Auditioning can be hard, and preparing for auditions by yourself can be even harder. This class provides a low pressure place to practice monologues and scene work. You can bring your own material to work on or you can discover material in the class as we look at different resources for finding and selecting monologues. There will also be time to work with partners or in small groups for scene work. Finally, there will be opportunity for feedback from the instructor and/or peers.

    New to coding? Then this camp is for you! Create an amazing Pokémon adventure in a video game of your own creation. This camp has been designed for beginner coders, making it extra fun for kids to pick up coding skills in a themed camp they will love. Participants will work in small teams to create their own universe of magical Pokémon creatures, code a "Catch Pokémon" game, design a Pokémon team, and create a game to duel against friends. Please bring a USB flash drive to save your projects.

    Join this dynamic course to learn a dynamite instrument! Players will learn the basics of music including reading music, rhythm, melody, and meter. We keep the class fun while making the instrument easily accessible for all students. Let the music play! Meets four times. NOTE TO PARENTS: Please supply your child with a six-string guitar.     This ACT Prep class is a great way for sophomores and juniors to prepare for the ACT. Taught by veteran instructors, this class covers the most commonly tested concepts, test-taking techniques, and time-management strategies. Instructors can also answer any questions the students might have regarding when to take the ACT, how many times to test, and how to leverage a strong score to improve candidacy at target colleges. Included in the cost are two ACT practice tests, as well as a 150-page binder with helpful tips for a successful test-taking experience.
