Sidewalk Chalk ArtWeek 8Have you ever been to a chalk festival where artists create sidewalk art for the public to see, and wondered how they create those works of art? Camp participants will learn the basic skills to create sidewalk chalk murals using the same chalk that professional chalk artists use! Supplies are included with the camp fees—and you can take your chalk kit home with you to continue creating masterpieces on your own. Participants should come dressed for the weather and ready to get dirty. Parents are invited to come at 11:15am to walk through the amazing showcase of chalk art! Starting SoonSpring & Summer Sweet Tarts & TreatsHome and GardenThe hallmark of any spring or summer celebration is, undoubtedly, the dessert. Whether you are looking for something memorable to create for Mother's Day, Father's Day, or beyond, we've got you covered! This class will guide you through the process of creating three exceptional confectionary creations: a classic French fruit tart, a Greek phyllo pastry tart called Bougatsa, and cakesicles! Participants will receive a list of ingredients needed in advance, ensuring you'll have enough time to go shopping before class. You'll also receive a PDF packet of the recipes after class. Cooking along is optional but highly recommended. Participants from the same household may participate together, and children need to be assisted by an adult. This class will take place on Zoom and will include participants from across the metro area. Equipment needed includes a cakesicle silicone mold and popsicle sticks. These items are available at most craft stores, and sticks are often included in the kit. You'll also need a tart pan with a removeable bottom.Winter/Spring 2025

You MUST be enrolled in the correlating Stepping Stones Preschool Class. Extended Care is on the SAME days your child attends Preschool. Upon registration for YMCA care, start date will begin 3 business days after registration to ensure that all forms are completed before care begins. Morning care includes breakfast. Midday care includes school lunch or can provide their own. Summer Camps & ProgramsAbout Summer Camps Choose your experience with Shakopee Community Education this summer! Each week, we will offer a variety of exciting morning and afternoon enrichment camps, all conveniently located at Sweeney Elementary (with a few exceptions). Register for the Lunch Link option (supervised lunch break) to create a full day of fun. Lunch Link For families looking for full-day options, the Lunch Link program is a perfect way to connect morning and afternoon camps. Lunch Link provides a supervised lunch hour and recess. Students are required to bring their own lunch. A separate registration is required at a cost of $20 per week. Lunch Link is only offered M-Th for camps held at Sweeney Elementary. Please note, students may register for a morning camp along with Lunch Link for a 9am-1pm experience, or they may register for Lunch Link and an afternoon camp for a Noon-4pm experience. Financial Assistance Fees for camps may be reduced for youth residing in District 720 boundaries. For families experiencing financial hardship, each immediate family member may receive up to a 50% fee reduction on one Community Education class per catalog, unless otherwise noted. Tantalizing Thai CuisineHome and GardenYou’ll begin by preparing fresh Vietnamese summer rolls paired with a variety of dipping sauces, and Vietnamese spring rolls with pork, turkey, and glass noodles stuffed in rice paper and fried crisp and golden. You'll then prepare pad thai, blending the vibrant flavors of Thailand with rice noodles, chicken breast, eggs, chilies, garlic, basil, and more. The Queen's Gambit Chess TournamentSTEMCheckmate! All experience levels are welcome and players are divided into the following groupings by age: 5-8, 9-12, 13-17 and 18+. Each participant plays five rounds. Registration cost includes pizza and a drink for each participant, as well as trophies, medals, and other awards. Tie-Dye Creations CampWeek 6This class is a fun way to learn color properties and how colors combine to make new colors. Each participant will get a white T-shirt to start and will learn several folding techniques before they decide on a folding pattern. They will fold the shirts themselves and then get to pick several different colors to dye their project. As they are waiting for the dye to set, they will make a few watercolor butterflies and/or flowers. Lastly, they will learn the art of resist drawing and watercolor painting with one more creation. Please dress for a mess as clothes may get stained.Summer 2025

Twice Upon A Time Theatre CampWeek 8“Once Upon a Time…” is how every great fairytale starts. But what would happen if The Storybook got into the wrong hands? What if someone wasn’t happy with their “happily ever after?” What if they could change how the stories go? Instead of being King of the Pirates, what if Captain Hook was… crocheting? Poor Rip Van Winkle has been guarding The Storybook for far too long. When he wakes, he finds that The Storybook has gone missing and everything seems upside down. On his quest to get the book returned, Rip meets a multitude of familiar characters, including Snow White and her friends, a myriad of evil stepsisters and the pirates of Neverland. Will Rip be able to restore The Storybook and put everything right? Or will the next fairytale start with “Twice Upon a Time?” Twice Upon a Time is Storybook Theatre’s first ever original story! Why only experience one fairytale when you can experience them all? From the creative mind of Jeremy Day, come be a part of this epic adventure to set all your favorite fairytales right! All students participate on stage in this play. Auditions are on Monday, and will last two hours. Roles will be announced at the end of the audition and everyone will stay afterward for rehearsal. Rehearsal schedule for the week is generally 8:30am-12:45pm, but might vary based on role. An exact schedule will be distributed on Monday. Please be sure to send a snack and water bottle with your student every day! Public performances will be held on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 11am at Shakopee West Middle School (Carl A. Olson Auditorium). Tickets are $5/person. There will be a private performance for YMCA childcare on Friday at 1pm.Summer 2025

UKE Can Do It!Week 3Tap into the power of music and mindfulness, all while learning how to play ukulele! In this camp, students will establish a deeper understanding of how music can impact mood and focus in humans AND animals! Each day, students will take a deep dive into a "musical theme of the day" as they sing, play and listen to music written by that composer. There are so many benefits to learning an instrument, including improving communication and collaboration skills. This camp intentionally incorporates the support of a social-emotional learning dog to reduce stress and build self-esteem for learners of all abilities. Video Production for YouTube CampWeek 2Learn how to create YouTube content in this three-day camp. Shoot videos, edit sound and create an online presence with YouTube. In the first half of the camp, learn the tricks that pro filmmakers use for better shots, lighting, sound and learn to use our film editing software. Then, in the second half of camp, students will work on a group unboxing or product review video. Participants will edit, add transitions, special effects and insert a soundtrack. When they are finished, they can share their finished video with the world! Bring a USB drive (at least 8GB) to save your video on the last day. Meets three times.Summer 2025
